From early September to mid November 2009 Eva Knuchel worked in Switzerland as a volunteer in the Bal Krriti project. Here are Eva's comment:
After I had finished my training as a primary school teacher, I wanted to follow my dream, to India, meet at last. I wanted to experience the culture first hand and learn, and to prove my skills in a new context and depth. For this reason I have decided to participate in the project Bal Krriti and live to two months in Jaipur. At a first meeting in Lucerne introduced me to the project specific regulators before. We shared my responsibilities outlined in the project and discussed the necessary preparation for my time in Jaipur: In order to more gently dip into Indian culture, it is worthwhile to read in front Rein. Recommended literature, "culture shock" by Rainer Krack, "Instructions for India" by Iliya Troyanov or the beautiful novel "Shantaram" by Georgy David Roberts, who also give to cultural subtleties can. I also flew over again the most important documents of my training and held a number of points which are relevant for a preschool project.
arrived in Jaipur, I was able to project the same day first hand. Perhaps my most important task was the teacher training. In my first time in Jaipur was the observation of teaching plays a central role. Every day I watched as the teachers were planning their lessons, implemented and evaluated. Together with regulators and the project manager Shabina we gave at the end of each day, a feed-back and tried to make the teachers aware of their mistakes and show them alternatives. Based on these observations, I worked out later, a teacher training program, which was carried out on three Saturdays. The focus of this teacher training were the following topics: Active learning time, varied instruction, motivation, creativity, advanced forms of learning and Inter Vision. The revision of the curricula I had this as logical as possible build while taking into account India's educational goals, which was not always easy. In addition to the teacher training I was providing the teachers also specialist courses, including music and drawing, so as to supplement their skills.
The teachers were given next to individual courses, which for their specific tasks and functions, Bal Krriti are 'project is essential. These included a computer course and a first aid training. The second area I work completed administrative tasks, such as registration of the children. The collection of this data is central to the project to capture the individual progress of children and to supervise the children according to their needs. The administration includes the confirmation of the parents that the children do not go to another school, which is vital for the functioning of the project. I was also involved in organizing special events such as the "Women Awareness Camp", the Parents' or Eröffungstag of Shakti. I made subsequently reports on such special occasions and took photos. I also photographed the project work in order to document the project. The final tasks were the continuation of the documentary record surrounding the project. Difficulties and possible solutions The language barrier is probably the greatest difficulty to which I had. Another difficulty is the limited material available, and finally I was often aware of the diversity of our education system.
In the 2 months in Jaipur, I have learned a lot about Indian culture, from obvious differences such as the nod of the head or the language to very subtle and difficult to understand code, such as certain taboos or facial expressions. When to say yes really yes? How much privacy can I get me in this society? I also gained a lot of professional experience, especially through work with the teachers. I've also learned that my help must be kept to a minimum and it all came down to let the teachers to independently and competently carry out their work. Especially nice is that everything is small and centrally organized. By working directly with regulators, it was relatively easy to introduce new ideas and conduct. Often it was a mutual learning process: I learned a lot about Indian culture and its strengths, the teacher could benefit from my training and experience as a teacher. At the same time I saw that actually a much longer stay would be necessary in order to more sustainable. I became aware of the limits of such a project. You can not reinvent a day to the world. Any changes need a lot of time and consistency. Nevertheless, such a project, Bal Krriti 'more than necessary in Jaipur. And if the process is slow you can, so their effect will last for years, as the project is built on the long term. The work on the project needs a lot of energy because everything is always different than one would think. Every day, something unexpected happens: The computer does not work with all project data. The engine of the Vespa denied middle of the noisy hour traffic. The parents are 2 hours late to the parents evening. This requires a lot of improvisation and makes you realize that for excitement, rather than about the failure, just as quickly finds a solution. But it is certainly not just about bad surprises, but also encouraging: an unexpected Chai middle of the night, warm smiling faces that help one out of trouble ... India is an incredibly welcoming country and the often-mentioned sentence, Everything is possible in India! " just take quite well to ...
I want regulators to thank most sincerely for their help and support. It has enabled me gently into the Indian culture and immerse myself saved from many pitfalls. It has taken an infinite amount of time to explain to me the project and all Indian features. It has taken me all over and introduced me competent in my areas of responsibility. She has shown me, beside of the work the best Indian restaurants and lassi stands. And even though we were tired and exhausted, she lost her smile and optimism never. It's incredible how much power and tireless energy will lead the project and what it's all made within these 3 years on the legs. I wish her every success in the future, Bal Krriti 'and I am sure that, Bal who Krriti 'project is a lot of fruit!
+ Development would like to thank at this point to thank Eva for their active participation and enriching! She helps us with her cheerful nature of the work and we hope that it inspires us in the future!
